Coach of Argentina Jorge Sampaoli believes his team lost against Nigeria because they could not convert their first-half chances.
Argentina on Tuesday, November 14 surrendered a two-goal lead before losing 2-4 to the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Ever Banega put Argentina in the lead from a freekick in the 25th minute before Sergio Aguerodoubled the lead 10 minutes later.
The Argentines completely dominated the first half but could not convert their chances before Kelechi Iheanacho pulled one back for Nigeria with a freekick in the 45th minute.
Having lost steam, Sampaoli’s men could not contain the Super Eagles who got three more goals through a brace from Alex Iwobi and a goal from Bryan Idowu.
“I do not think it’s hard to explain. We played in the first half well, in the second we tried to play more in attack,” the former Sevilla manager said in his post-match interview.
“It happens with all the teams. Nigeria had many good moments, but we defended well, and I think that we just did not realise our moments.
“There were many passes which we couldn't use.”
