The thrillseeker’s pal jumped first but crash landed, breaking his hip at the beauty spot near Eastbourne, East Sussex. The second jumper was a trained paramedic who immediately started first aid on the stricken man after landing during the incident yesterday. The coastguard and search and rescue helicopter were scrambled and the injured man was flown to Brighton before being taken to hospital. A Coastguard spokesman said: ‘This afternoon, Birling Gap Coastguard team were tasked to a base jumper whose parachute had pulled him towards the cliff. The UK Coastguard Agency has warned people to stay back from the edge of the beauty spot in case they fall while taking pictures.
