Republicans in both chambers passed tax reform with no Democratic support — and some Republicans even voted in opposition. That, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell once said, is a recipe for a political backlash.
The two tax bills have a lot in common — including dramatic cuts in corporate tax rates and the elimination of a number of personal tax deductions — but they also have crucial differences that must be reconciled before a final version can be sent to the president.

Michael Flynn could have been hit with much more serious charges, and his family might have been targeted. The special counsel had convened a grand jury to look at a range of things Flynn had allegedly done wrong.
With a guilty plea by one of President Trump’s closest and most valued aides at the time, the investigation has swept up an array of figures with intimate knowledge of the campaign, the transition and the White House, and it appears to have expanded to encompass a range of activities.
