The world of WWE is rarely a quiet one, but this week has been particularly newsworthy for the world’s biggest professional wrestling company.
WWE toured Europe this week, but a variety of issues caused changes to the advertised cards. An illness to Roman Reigns saw Triple H join The Shield, while Kurt Angle became an honoury Shield member once again in England.
Two of the biggest pieces of news this week came on Tuesday’s SmackDown Live. In the main event of the show, AJ Styles defeated Jinder Mahal to win the WWE Championship.
The win for Styles means that he will now face Raw’s Universal Champion Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series in a non-title champion vs champion match, which could be one of the best WWE matches of the year.
There was less good news for Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, who were both sent home from the tour by WWE after SmackDown.
Both Owens and Zayn featured on the show where they were beat-down by The New Day, and reports indicate that WWE were unhappy with the way the duo reacted after the segment had ended.
While no official punishment has been announced for the pair, this is not a good sign for the SmackDown faction.
One man who has experienced his fair share of controversial moments over the past 50 years has been Ric Flair, whose ESPN documentary Nature Boy finally aired in the United States this week.
The documentary received excellent reviews, and featured a vast array of talking heads including The Undertaker, Triple H and Ric’s daughter Charlotte.
Nature Boy was one of the most popular shows on Cable TV this week, further emphasising Ric’s fame and story.
Perhaps Flair will be a future guest for Piers Morgan, after the outspoken TV presenter called out WWE commentator Corey Graves this week.
Graves referred to Enzo Amore as ‘the only guy less liked in England than Piers Morgan’ while commentating on Raw, leading to Morgan reacting on Twitter.
Graves, who was forced to retire from wrestling due to concussion issues, responded to Morgan with typical style.
Before Morgan offered up perhaps the harshest insult of all – comparing himself to John Cena, and Graves to perennial WWE loser Heath Slater.
There was better news for John Cena than being compared to Piers Morgan however, as he was named as the fifth man on SmackDown’s Survivor Series team to take on Raw later this month.
Cena will be joined by Shane McMahon, Shinsuke Nakamura, Bobby Roode and Randy Orton to take on Kurt Angle, Braun Strowman, Jason Jordan, Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
